Fuller's is challenging is managers to host the most exciting event possible during their first 'Action Week'.

All 170 pubs in the firm's managed estate have been asked to host a special event, which takes place from October 21 to 27. Festivities range from Q&A sessions with World Cup winner Martin Peters, to port and cheese nights.

"We've got the darts player Bobby George going to a few of our pubs, curry nights, as it's also national curry week, and casino events with prizes instead of money," said Kiran Pal, retail and marketing executive with Fuller's. Other events include a Brighton pub holding an open day for Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, and several "Greek weeks".

The scheme has been designed very much with customers in mind, but Fuller's managers have taken to the task with relish. "There's a buzz around the managers, a camaraderie. There's also a bit of friendly rivalry as to who can host the biggest night, and best events." said Pal.

Area managers from Fuller's will judge pub's events in other areas, with winners receiving a luxury meal in London. The overall winner gets a European weekend break for two, and a Red Letter Day for their team. "We're challenging our managed pubs to give something different to their customers and drive trade," said public relations executive Tony Johnson.

"It's an open-ended scheme so you can do something for the whole week or just one day. One pub is doing a sausage festival from Monday to Thursday, a Grease-themed disco on Friday night then a late-summer ball on the Saturday."
