Edinburgh's licensing board has passed a policy which will mean bars must provide seats for at last half of their customers. It will also see pub hours cut during the week. The council says the draft policy is aimed at combating alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour. The Scottish Licensed Trade Association said the move was "ridiculous".
Southwold-based Adnams and multiple lessee Peach Pub Company are finalists in the Corporate Social Responsibility Award category in the Orange National Business Awards. Adnams has long been hailed as the green template for brewers and opened a £4m brewing plant last year. Peach has set about growing its own forest in Africa to offset its carbon footprint.
Tattershall Castle Group (TCG), the managed pub operator owned by Alchemy Partners, the private equity firm, has launched a new concept called Oasis under the banner "classic pubs with a twist". David Ford, chief executive of TCG, told M&C Report that the new concept was aimed at 25 to 35-year-olds who are "looking for a refuge from the more frantic late-night town-centre circuit".
Trade stalwart George Bailey has died after a long illness at the age of 94. Bailey was secretary of Doncaster LVA for 30 years and a member of the National Licensed Victuallers Association and one of its successors, the Federation of Licensed Victuallers Associations. The funeral will take place on Monday, 10 September, at Priory Place Church, Doncaster, at 12 noon followed by interment at Woodhouse Cemetery, Doncaster.
Faucet Inn Pub Company, the London-based pub and bar operator, has acquired six leasehold sites from Broken Foot Inns for an undisclosed sum, according to M&C Report. Faucet Inn Pub Company, founded in 2000 by Steve Cox, has acquired the Chandlers and the Haven in Ealing, the Nanobyte Bar in Soho, the William Morris in Merton, the Fat Controller in Harrow, and the College Arms in Holborn.
Punch Taverns has enhanced the recruitment section of its website, making it easier for prospective licensees to search for vacant pubs by postcode. The website receives an average of 34,000 hits per month and the pubco has over a 1,000 potential retailers registered in its talent bank.
"The website is a vital resource for us," said head of recruitment Adam Smith.
