Kremlin Inn

Clee Hill, Shropshire

Agent: Guy Simmonds

Sue and Alan Sumnall, and son Ian, have just taken on the Kremlin Inn, in Shropshire. It will be a true family business with Alan and Ian behind the bar and Sue running the kitchen.

Sue worked as a nurse in general practice and Alan worked in transport.

Sue said: "We wanted to do something together as a family. The work's hard, but it's going well. We're confident we can significantly increase food sales and the overall turnover."

Sue has been working very hard in the kitchen, knocking out 39 roast dinners during the pubs first Sunday. "I've had no professional catering experience, but no onecomplained or keeled over so I guess I did OK!"

The menu is basic at the moment with pub classics like home-made steak and ale pie and scampi and chips. Sue plans to extend her repertoire as she finds her feet in the kitchen.

Local brewer Hobsons provides the majority of the beer, including Hobsons Mild, which recently triumphed at the Great British Beer Festival as the best beer in Britain.

The family want to create a community business. Their pub will provide free food to a variety of teams, including the local rugby side, two darts teams and a pool team.

They have put up signs near local landmarks to draw people to the pub and are in the process of renovating two letting rooms. The pub, which is the highest in Shropshire and the second-highest in England, attracts a lot of walkers and

customers who come for the spectacular view.
