Traces of polonuim210 found at Hey Jo Club

Hey Joe Club in Mayfair, which is currently publicly flouting the smoking ban, has been named by Westminster City Council as one of 21 premises that were contaminated with polonium210, the substance used to kill Alexander Litvinenko.

The radioactive poison, which is one of the most dangerous substances known to man, was discovered in tiny traces on seating and cubicle doors at the club shortly after the former Russian KGB agent died last November.

Hey Jo was found to have one of the lowest levels of contamination out of the 47 premises Westminster City Council checked. The affected areas were cleaned and painted over with special products and no longer pose any threat. The police informed David West, the owner of the club, that the alleged murderer had visited his club.

Harry Barnett, Dave West's business partner, who runs Hey Jo and the attached Abracadabra Restaurant, said: "It was like something out of Ghostbusters, they all came in wearing white suits. I said 'where's mine!'. They walked round with a Geiger counter beeping away, we had to shut for the day and cancel bookings."
