Licensee thanks The Publican over Opus
A licensee has thanked The Publican for helping her to be released from a contract with under-fire energy company Opus.
Rosemary Caldwell, licensee at the Old White Swan in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, said it had been "nearly three years of hell" dealing with the firm.
In the first year Ms Caldwell faced a deficit of £3,986.13. Opus wanted to take £2,000 a month for three months to make up the deficit, she claimed. But her next statement showed she was in credit by £4,216.82.
She says she was fed-up with calling the company to be released from the contract and started sending letters by recorded delivery. "I told them my case had been taken up by The Publican," she said.
"We want to thank The Publican for running the story and bringing it to people's attention. We will now be saving £8,000 a-year with our new suppliers."
The Publican was first to highlight issues with Opus in February and successfully intervened in a case involving licensee Paul Blyth, who was being charged 'out of contract rates' for five months, which totalled almost £7,000.
Last month watchdog Energywatch said the number of complaints against the company had dropped and Opus said it was continuing to work to resolve any issues with its service.
