Thousands of smokers defied the introduction of the smoking ban across England yesterday by lighting up in pubs, claiming that the legislation was an infringement of civil liberties. Wine could make a good anti-bacterial mouthwash to fight tooth decay and a sore throat, according to Italian research. Prof Gabriella Gazzani and colleagues, at the University of Pavia, showed in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry that red and, to a lesser extent, white wine were effective in inhibiting the growth of several strains of streptococci bacteria involved in tooth decay and some cases of sore throat - The Telegraph
A joker swapped the Prince of Wales's motto on a pub sign for the phrase "All English are a***holes" - in Welsh. The mystery signwriter was meant to inscribe "Ich dien", meaning "I serve", under the Prince of Wales's three feathers. Instead, he wrote the insult "Twll tin pob sais".
