Freetrade readers have just over a week to share their views on the industry in the MA's annual survey of the sector. Last week's MA contained a questionnaire urging freehouse owners to help us build an accurate picture of their businesses. In return, we are offering the chance to win £1,500. Diageo is considering closing down its Guinness brewery in St James's Gate, Dublin. It has been suggested that the group may move production out of town to Balbriggan, north of Dublin. Diageo said that it was engaged in an "assessment of its investment options for its brewing operations to enhance the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the business".

Shares in Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) outperformed the market Monday after Merril Lynch upgraded its rating, stating that it expected the beer industry to consolidate further. The brokerage gave S&N shares a 700p target.
