Analysts forecast alcohol sales fall

Consumption of alcohol in the UK is set to fall across every drinks category except wine over the next few years, according to a new report from market analyst Datamonitor. The report cites health concerns, while beer is seen as "old fashioned".

Cash Inn gets pub game licence

OFCOM has granted the interactive pub game show Cash Inn a broadcasters licence. The show will be hosted by Jasper Carrot and beamed live into pubs every Sunday evening. Innterplay MD, Paul Krisman, said: "This really is the future of pub entertainment. The rapid advance of technology makes sophisticated programming and

interactive play accessible to every pub in the country."

CAMRA seeks grand designs

The Campaign for Real Ale is looking for pubs for its prestigious Pub Design 2007 awards. The awards celebrate sympathetic preservation and

restoration as well as applauding new builds. Camra press officer Owen Morris said: "Last year we had some beautiful

examples of pubs that had worked hard to restore and preserve their character."

Thwaites marks bicentenary

Management and staff at the Blackburn brewer Thwaites toasted 200 years at a ceremony last weekend. More than 300 people joined in the celebrations at the Blackburn Rovers' football ground. A host of events have been arranged to mark the milestone including the commissioning of a book chronicling the brewery's history.

LVA supporter passes on

John Bleathman, a strong supporter of licensed victuallers associations and the trade's charities, has died aged 82. He retired from the trade 19 years ago and his last pub was the Dog & Partridge, near Reading, which he ran with his wife, Betty, a former chairman of the Licensed Trade Charity's national schools committee. John died following a short stay in hospital where he was being treated for anaemia.
