MPs and licensees back Proud of Pubs Week
Proud of Pubs Week is set to go with a bang next month with licensees and MPs across the country ranking behind the initiative.
Pubs are planning celebratory nights on Tuesday July 10 while MPs ranging from Eric Martlew in Carlisle to David Lepper in Brighton have so far agreed to pop in to their local on Friday July 13.
Kimberly McGibbon, who runs two pubs in Hawarden in Flintshire, North Wales, is putting on two events during the week - a pasta and wine evening at her food-led pub Fox & Grapes, and a race night at the nearby Bluebell.
"I'm waiting to hear from my MP, Mark Tami, to see whether he will attend," she said. "Proud of Pubs Week will really help us get our pubs noticed."
The Publican's deputy editor Daniel Pearce is spreading the word about the event at three BII events in Cornwall, Dorset and Hampshire on June 11, 12 and 13 this week. For more details contact the BII on 01276 417874.

Monday - Put out a questionnaire to your community - what do they want from their local pub?
Tuesday - Try something you have never done before - launch a Proud of Pubs Night in your pub!
Wednesday - Audit your pub and make sure you are operating at your best - take a close-up look at every aspect of the business, from energy-saving to CCTV, on this day. Get staff to take our proof-of-age test.
Thursday - Are you Proud of your People? Tell them, tell the pub…then tell The Publican.
Friday - Invite your local MP into your pub - get your MP to come down and get to know your business - and take advantage of a PR opportunity to boot.
