Should the UK ditch the Eurovision Song Contest?

It's not been a vintage year. It's more like a political back-slapping exercise than a music or song competition. Until the organisers agree to change the voting system I think we should boycott the whole thing. The old Soviet block countries are now dictating the whole event. All I would miss is Terry Wogan sending the whole thing up!

If you know how certain countries are going to vote it takes away the whole point of the competition. Having said that, I don't think our entry was up to much. It's time a lot more thought was put into it, and perhaps we should go back to more traditional songs.

I only watched bits of it because we were very busy on Saturday night, but from what I did see it all seemed a bit of a farce. I think we should call it a day and if others followed our lead it might mean the whole format was changed. It's not really a song competition any more if the voting is so flawed.

It's been a big talking point in the pub. Lots of people now think the whole event has run its course because there is no real competition any more and you more or less know how a lot of countries are going to vote. The UK entry was very poor, but it doesn't disguise the fact that the contest is now far too political.
