Should Prince Harry go to Basra?

I think he should, if he wants to - it's what he's been trained for, after all. It's not something my customers have been talking about, to be honest. The only problem is that him being there might put others in danger, though I'm sure his commanding officers have thought how he could be used without putting his fellow soldiers in the line of fire. I do think he's responsible enough. He's had all the training. I am sure he understands the risks involved in what he's doing.

Absolutely not. It would be a big mistake. The amount of security he'd need would be phenomenal. If anything happened to him it would cause tremendous unrest. It really puts us in the firing line - he's the third in line to the throne! It's a ground war we can't win. We need to get out of there as soon as possible. It's not right to put such young people into this sort of combat. How can they possibly have enough experience to fight against guerrillas?

To be honest we have not given it much thought at my pub. The customers and I have been more preoccupied with the upcoming Telford Beer festival, so it's not really been discussed. I suppose it would be a purely political and military decision. I think the real question is, would Harry going to Basra cause more problems than Harry not going? The less coverage the media gives regarding him, and where he is, the better.

Absolutely not. It's an awful idea, it's an absolute minefield over there. The insurgents would like nothing better than to take him as a hostage - he'd just be a huge target. Could you imagine how awful it would be for everyone if he was executed on television? It's just not worth the risk. He says he wants to be with his men, but he will just be putting them in danger. My husband, Alan, and I are totally against it.
