Countdown starts to Proud of Pubs Week
Get ready for Proud of Pubs Week!
The countdown is on for a major initiative The Publican is launching this summer.
Licensees across the country are being urged to take part in a range of activities taking place between July 8 and 15.
Pubs are being invited to try something they have never done before in a Proud of Pubs Night in their pub on Tuesday July 10 - and to invite MPs into their pubs on Friday July 13.
Other activities during the week will see a national toast raised to the nation's barstaff, and pubs invited to carry out a close-up audit of their pub.
The initiative, the latest phase of The Publican's Proud of Pubs campaign, has already won the support of key figures across the industry.
John Grogan MP, the chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, said: "Proud of Pubs Week is ideally timed to demonstrate to the world that there is life for pubs after the smoking ban comes into effect in England.
"Sometimes the best ideas in life are the simplest and the plan for publicans to invite MPs into their locals on Friday of that week is a very good one."
John McNamara, chief executive of the BII, said he was delighted to support The Publican's Proud of Pub Week on behalf of BII.
"The Publican has been striving to raise the profile of the pub industry through their Proud of Pubs campaign and this week will really focus the industry's mind on the positive impact of pubs."
