Punch Taverns said it is disappointed by the decision to close two of its pubs in St Neots, Cambs, because of drug dealing. The King's Head has been ordered to close for eight weeks and the Wrestlers Inn for two. A Punch Taverns spokesman said: "We are disappointed by the decision. Both pubs will continue to trade and a decision will be made regarding an appeal."
Adnams, the brewer and pub operator, has recruited one of the retail sector's leading marketers as a non-executive director. Steven Sharp, director of marketing at Marks & Spencer, will join the group on 1 June. Jonathan Adnams, chairman, said: "I am delighted that Steven Sharp is joining the Adnams board at a time when growth is very much on our agenda."
The Premier League has warned there will be "no amnesty" for pubs showing foreign satellite football despite the legal hiatus created by one licensee's High Court appeal. If Karen Murphy, licensee of the Red, White & Blue in Portsmouth, Hampshire, is successful in her appeal application, prosecutions in lower courts are likely to go on hold until it has been heard. JD Wetherspoon has introduced sharing dishes to its Curry Club menu. The new dishes include thali, a selection of small taster dishes, traditionally presented to a guest in an Indian home to show hospitality. There is also a new vegetarian addition to the menu - Goan vegetable curry. The company is now also stocking Twinings tea and plans to install coffee machines to make decaffeinated coffee available in all pubs.
