"Publicans are well used to dealing with disturbances and patrons breaking the law. This law is no different. Public co-operation is important but if they choose not to co-operate then there are systems in place to prevent this. Doorstaff are cheaper than the fines that would be given out." Jon
"Come on everybody, see the big picture, death or life! We'll all be winners in the end, as people won't stay at home forever." Rob
"Hi from Canada. If you want to spend money, do it on drive-throughs and take-out food. If you're a fancy restaurant, go fancier. If you're a family restaurant, offer specials. If you're a pub and you have room and your licence allows, just stick benches against the walls outside. If you're a very small cafe, turn it into mainly take-out. If you have larger premises, get in some slot machines. We have had years of experience here, more than seven years in my town, to watch businesses go under and see how the survivors have adapted. It is a grim picture, there are no winners. The smokers stay home and the non-smokers never came." Diana Reid
"Ireland: 1,000 pubs closed, many thousands out of work. Scotland: 200 pubs closed, a further 28 put on the market last week, bar takings down £1,000-£1,500 per week, 16 bingo halls closed and more to follow. When Sweden, Holland, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Malta and now Germany can introduce smoking restrictions but retain the vital element of choice, there is something seriously wrong with our politicians..." Bill Gibson
"It will not be too bad in the summer, apart from neighbours complaining about the noise! The winter will be a different story." Andy Mapp
