Greene King has spent £4.5m on a new distribution depot in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, in what the brewer describes as a signal of its commitment to customers in the former heartland of Hardys & Hansons.

The depot will be the "biggest and best-equipped Greene King distribution centre in the country, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and energy efficient storage", the group said in a statement.

Greene King's brewing managing director Justin Adams said the level of investment was an illustration of the group's "determination to keep local roots in what was H&H's heartland".

Greene King bought H&H last year for £271m and transferred brewing of the Nottingham group's beers to Bury St Edmunds.

Adams said sales of Hardys and Hansons' Olde Trip had "doubled its sales since Greene King took it over in September last year".

The £4.5million new distribution centre in Eastwood was "an example of our focus on cask as well as on customer service", he added.
