CBD Bars has opened its third and largest Firefly bar in the City of London.

The company, set up by commercial property lawyer Craig Themis, former Pitcher & Piano manager David Bevan, and Robert Shaw, invested £400,000 in the 5,000sq ft site.

The new venue, next to the Old Bailey central criminal court, is spread over three floors, with a club basement area on the bottom floor.

Bevan told MA sister publication M&C Report: "The new site has been performing very well, with the non-smoking top floor the most popular. In readiness for the ban we are applying for a licence to put tables and chairs outside in our pedestrianised area.

"The new bar caters for the City crowd during the week and is closed at weekends, but from March it will open as a nightclub, for use by different promoters."

The company, which has an annual turnover of approximately £2m, plans to open up to two new bars a year and may take on a larger investor to aid its expansion. Its other two London branches are in Clapham and Balham.
