Gourmet pubs win Michelin accolade
Four pubs have been awarded Bib Gourmands in this year's Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2007.
The Oak Tree Inn at Hutton Magna, Yorkshire, the Hole in the Wall at Little Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire, the Gumstool Inn at Tetbury, Gloucestershire, and the Hardwick in Abergavenny have all received the award for serving good food at moderate prices. To qualify, diners have to be able to purchase three courses for under £28.
The Goose at Britwell Salome, Oxfordshire, has lost its star.
The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2007 was launched last week, priced £15.99. There are now 122 establishments with stars - more than ever before.
Hardwick head chef Stephen Terry said: "We never expected a star, because at the end of the day we serve things such as grilled sandwiches and although they are very good, they are still only sandwiches. To be recognised as a venue where you can buy three decent courses for £28 is great. Naturally, we're over the moon."
