Corrie star backs Best Bar None Awards
Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald in Coronation Street, will be adding her backing to the Best Bar None Awards in Manchester this week.
Callard, who is also the licensee of the White Horse pub in Eccles will be launching the 2006 awards - which reward well managed venues who take their customers' safety seriously.
An awards ceremony will take place on 26 November 2006 at The Hilton Hotel on Deansgate, where the names of the accredited venues will be announced, as well as the category winners and overall winner.
The Best Bar None awards are a fantastic example of the police working together with the alcohol industry PC Paul Acton from Manchester's City Safe
PC Paul Acton from Manchester's City Safe said: "The Best Bar None awards are a fantastic example of the police working together with the alcohol industry and the local authority to fight the problems caused by binge-drinking and alcohol fuelled crime.
"We have a range of initiatives in Manchester to further reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder and by licensees operating in such a responsible way, the Best Bar None Awards have undoubtedly contributed to a fall in incidents.
"We are determined to make this scheme even more successful and will continue to work with our partners to ensure that visitors to the city have a safe and enjoyable time.
"I would like to thank Beverley for being a responsible pub owner and supporting this scheme, helping to spread the message to other licensees that good management means safer environments for customers."
Phil Burke, spokesman for the Manchester Pub and Club Network, said: "It is excellent to see all of the authorities recognising the benefits of highlighting and encouraging best practice, rather then just focusing on occasions when things go wrong. We have hard working licensees in Manchester and it is good to reward them with these special awards."
