New smoothie is just for pubs
Hartridges is hoping to replicate the popularity of at-home smoothies in the pub by bringing out a drink with a long shelf life.
In the past, pub company buyers have said that smoothies on the market would not work in the on-trade because they only lasted for a few weeks.
But Hartridges' Fruit Smoothie has a shelf life of nine months and does not need to be stored in a fridge, although it should be served chilled.
The drinks, made with 100% fruit, are available now in 275ml glass bottles and come in two flavours: strawberry and banana, and orange and mango.
Managing director Martin Hartridge said the liquid was thicker than a fruit juice but thinner than rival brands such as Innocent, making it easy to drink and offering a better accompaniment to food.
He added: "We are amazed that no one else has launched a long-life smoothie which is made from 100% fruit.
"The drink will sell in pubs for about £1.70 per bottle."
The drink is designed for all ages and will only be available in the on-trade.
