Pregnant women get drink message in pub loos
A NHS Trust in Manchester is to target pregnant women who drink in a series of adverts in pub toilets.
The ads, which ask "Are you pregnant or thinking about it and worried about your drinking?" - will be placed in pub and club toilets in and around Manchester.
The posters will also have wallet-sized cards for women to take-away.
Phil Burke, Manchester Pub & Club Network says: "This is a very important message that we need to get out to all our female customers.
"We believe that it's the best way to get their undivided attention while spending a penny.
"Our poster campaign alerts them about the risks of drinking while pregnant or trying to conceive. We want women to know that there is advice and support available".
Faye Macrory, consultant midwife said: "One of the key messages we are trying to get across is that no alcohol equals no risk of alcohol related harm to the baby.
"We want to reach women who may not realise how many units they are actually drinking.
"Education around alcohol and pregnancy with the support of a midwife is effective and can be all the support that is needed".
"When measures are larger and drinks are stronger, one drink isn't always one unit of alcohol.
"At any time during pregnancy, cutting down or stopping drinking will be beneficial."
The campaign will feature on ITV1's Tonight With Trevor McDonald programme at 8.00pm on Monday 2 October.
