Ricky is ready…
The search for the best cask ale pub in the UK is now well under way with hundreds of entries flooding in, as licensees seek to be named the Greene King/The Publican Cask Ale Pub of the Year.
Aside from the honour of winning the title, one of the big prizes on offer for the winner is a celebrity party award night in your pub. Now we can reveal that the celebrity is none other than Ricky Tomlinson, star of classic TV comedy The Royle Family.
After speaking to guests on arrival at your pub, Ricky will take an official question and answer session from guests and then pose for photos with the staff and regulars. Then he will work behind the bar for the evening, helping serve what will officially be a range of the best cask ales in the country.
"I always drink cask ale whenever I have the choice, so I'm really looking forward to spending the evening celebrating with the staff and locals of the best cask ale pub in Britain," said Ricky.
Greene King has organised bags of support material to help you organise what be an unforgettable night at your pub. The support will include:
- Two firkins of Greene King beer
- Invitations to send to your locals to invite them to the evening
- Posters to promote the evening in your pub
- Greene King branded point of sale, including polo-shirts and bar runners
- External (all weather banner) banners to promote the event
- Cask Ale Pub of the Year banner display

The winner will also receive:
- A feature article in The Publican
- National trade and consumer PR
- A Cask Ale Pub of the Year wall plaque to display in your pub
The closing date is drawing ever closer. Licensees have until September 18 to enter the first Greene King/The Publican Cask Ale Pub of the Year competition.
After the closing date for entries passes, a panel of expert judges will draw up a shortlist of the eight best entries.
These pubs will then be visited by representatives from Greene King, The Publican as well as series of independent judges.
The winner will then be crowned Cask Ale Pub of the Year 2006 at The Publican Conference in November.
