Wetherspoon's slashes cost of proof of age
JD Wetherpoon's responsible drinking campaign has taken a step forward as half-price CitizenCard proof of age cards have made available in all of its pubs.
The PASS-accredited scheme means customers can pick up application forms from the bar enabling them to buy the cards for £4.50, instead of £9. The offer will help to enforce the Challenge 21 scheme, which encourages bar staff to ask for ID from any customer they suspect may be under 21.
CitizenCards are an alternative to carrying more expensive forms of ID.
JD Wetherspoon chief executive John Huston said: "Wetherspoon is committed to stopping any under-age drinking in its pubs. The CitizenCard will benefit both our customers and staff and we are pleased to support the scheme in our pubs."
CitizenCard director of communications Tim Hirst added: "Anyone who looks under 21 is likely to be asked for proof of age when buying alcohol. The CitizenCard ensures that customers have access to products and services to which they are entitled."
