A stone's throw from Trent Bridge cricket ground and Holme Pierrepoint national water sports centre, the appropriately named Test Match is a large community pub serving traditional food.

A Hardys & Hansons pub, it serves more than 1,000 meals a week and is popular with sports fans.

To attract more senior citizens, the pub has introduced the "Golden Years" menu, which offers smaller portions at lower prices.

The set menu changes every month and always offers a roast dinner, a fish dish or a vegetarian option. Starters begin at 99p and the cheapest main course is £3.80. Puddings are £2.20.

Manager Sarah Cunnington says: "We're a strictly adults-only pub anyway, so it's very important for us to attract older people at lunchtimes.

"We offer smaller portions on the 'Golden Years' menu seven days a week. We used to do it only on weekdays, but we've extended it to the weekends due to the demand.

"We took the 'Golden Years' menu off last year for a short time and we lost quite a lot of custom because of it.

"We still make our GP because we serve smaller portions on this menu, but it's just the right amount for older people."

The pub also offers a special lunchtime offer of two meals for £9, which many of the senior citizens also order.

Adds Sarah: "Although most of our older customers order from the 'Golden Years' menu, some of them order from the £9 menu, which offers diners normal-sized portions. In fact, the most popular dish on that menu is the 'mini grill', which consists of a pork chop, lamb chop, sausage and lamb's liver!"
