Fuller's announces good start to 2006
Fuller's has reported a good start to the year but says chairman plans to retire next year.

Fuller's has reported a good start to the year for its existing business and the new outlets it bought when it swallowed up Gales.

It puts its good start down to a combination of the good weather and the World Cup.

Chairman Anthony Fuller told the Annual General Meeting today: "Fuller's has made a good start to the year. This includes the Gales business - which was acquired on 2nd December 2005.

"Like for like sales for the combined managed pub business are up 4.2% for the 16 weeks to 22nd July 2006 helped by the excellent weather during the period and the World Cup.

"As reported in the preliminary results on 9th June 2006, integration of the Gales operations into the Fuller's estate is complete and the Group is seeing the significant benefits of its acquisition including related synergies.

"I remain enthusiastic about the year ahead and expect to see progress in the combined business in line with our targets."

RetirementAnthony Fuller also announced his plans to retire as chairman next year but remain on the board.

Michael Turner, currently chief executive, will assume the role of Executive Chairman, when Fuller retires.

Fuller said: "In preparation for these changes, I am very pleased to announce that the Board has promoted Simon Emeny, Retail Director, to the position of Managing Director of Fuller's Inns and John Roberts, Beer and Brands Director, to the position of Managing Director of The Fuller's Beer Company.

"I would like to congratulate Simon and John on these well-deserved promotions and for their part in the Group's success.

"They will assume their new positions with immediate effect which will enable Michael to prepare for his new role next year."
