Brewing to end at Gale's
21 jobs to go as statement from Fuller's confirms worst fears of Gale's staff and supporters.

Fuller's has this morning announced that brewing is to end at Gale's Horndean site in Hampshire at the end of next month.

In a statement released today, Fuller's chief executive Michael Turner said:

"Whilst we are sad to announce the end of brewing in Horndean, with the loss of 21 jobs, we feel it is the best option for the long-term development of Gales' beers, and we are preserving employment in the local area as we will continue to run a full distribution and warehousing operation there." I would like to pay tribute to everyone at the HorndeanFuller's chief executive Michael Turner

Head Brewer to switchTurner said Derek Lowe, Gales' head brewer, and his team will switch to the company's Chiswick brewery in London and continue to produce Gale's beers.

"I would like to pay tribute to everyone at the Horndean brewery. Since our acquisition of George Gale & Co., the team in Hampshire has been exemplary in assuring that the union of these two family brewers is as smooth and seamless as possible. They are a fantastic group of people and a tribute to George Gale & Co." added Turner.

Brands to continueThe main Gales brands - HSB, Butser, Festival Mild and Prize Old Ale - will be brewed at Chiswick. Production of Gales Bitter, a recent addition to the company's range, will be discontinued.
