Cains does well with natural water source
Liverpool brewer Cains has spent £250,000 re-opening a long-forgotten natural water well underneath its city-centre brewery. The company says all its beers are now being produced with the well water, which bubbles 100ft beneath the Stanhope Street site. Brewery technicians spent months working on trial tipples to ensure the water conformed to quality standards. Much of the investment has been used to install sophisticated filtration equipment to enable brewery bosses to tap into the natural resource. Brewery owners the Dusanj brothers have been keen to re-open the well ever since they took over the company seven years ago. Joint managing director Sudarghara Dusanj said stories about the well began to emanate very soon after his family became new owners. 'It's a fantastic asset for us and we are delighted to get the well back into use once again,' he said. 'Brewery founder Robert Cain built his reputation on quality, with natural water at the heart of his beers so we are delighted to turn the clock back. 'We believe this adds another dimension to the Cains Brewery mission to offer drinkers 'Liverpool in a Pint'. 'Drinkers can be assured all Cains beers and lagers are produced from a natural Liverpool water source,' Dusanj said.
