The team at the Bricklayers Arms in Luton is the latest to be nominated for The Publican's Proud of Your Staff initiative.

Licensee Alison Taylor put her team forward for the accolade for all their hard work and the party they laid on to celebrate her 20 years at the Burlison Inns-owned pub. "It was amazing," said Alison. "All the staff organised a collection in the pub and presented me with a beautiful watch, a weekend away and champagne for my partner Nick Dale. I was overwhelmed."

Alison puts her staff's team spirit down to the fact that many of them have been working together for so long. "I have one member of staff, Jackie Cook, who has also been here 20 years. Anna Lincoln and Gill Fujino have been here for 15 years.

"All the rest of my staff, who are all part-time, have been here for more than a year which helps create a stable atmosphere for my customers."

The friendliness of her staff towards customers is also a great source of pride. Alison added: "The customers really enjoy the fact they can come and talk to someone they know - it makes a difference."
