'It's not really a surprise but we have a bottled drink called VHF that comes in nine different flavours. We sell it for £1 a bottle all year round but it tends to be more popular in the summer especially with young people before they go on to clubs.

The Rose Grower Nottingham

'We have an established, more mature trade here so our customers are less likely to experiment, especially with new-style drinks brands. But, as is the case during most summers, drinkers do tend to switch to cooler drinks so we have seen people move from cask beer to lager and cooler nitro beers. It happens every year, especially when there is a prolonged warmer spell of weather.

'We have to cater for a wide range of drinks, cultures and varying tastes because of Blackpool's thriving tourist industry. We get different demands according to the geographical make-up of our visitors so we have to stock a very wide choice of drinks. I would say ciders have done very well throughout the summer. Corona has also proved particularly popular and other brands have sold quickly at different times so we have to be on our toes all the time!

David Heyes

The Garsdale Inn Bury

'Soft drinks such as J20 have been popular, particularly during weekday lunchtime trading sessions when office staff tend to stay off alcohol. Generally it has been a good summer for soft drink sales, which continue to grow year on year. On the food side we have done very well with a new range of salads, which are made quickly in our back-up kitchen that serves the beer garden. This takes a lot of pressure off the main catering staff.
