Letting off Steam - What annoys you most about customers?
What annoys you most about customers?
Trevor Kearon, co-owner, Taversoe Hotel, Rousay, Orkney
"We operate a non-smoking policy throughout the pub but I still get people saying to me: 'For God's sake Trevor, give us a break and pass us an ashtray'. We also get a lot of people asking whether the fish is local, so I always reply:
'It's in the kitchen, you can't get more local than that'."
Patricia Prater, co-owner, Taversoe Hotel, Rousay, Orkney
"We close on Mondays because there are only two of us running the place. Although we've put up a large sign saying
we are closed, we still get people knocking on the door asking: 'Does it really mean what it says on the sign?' If they have walked up from the hostel on the island, we normally end up cooking them a meal and then they cadge a lift from us back to the hostel."
Michael Thompson, head chef, Druid Inn, Birchover, Derbyshire
"What annoys me most is when customers think they know
best, when you know that you're right. You end up having to say: 'Yes sir, no sir'. We make all our own chips, but people still say they are frozen, so we have to ask them if they want to go into the kitchen and see for themselves."
