Fixed penalties for Brighton flyposters
Brighton and Hove City Council has 'named and shamed the worst venues for illegal flyposting.
This is in response to a recent surge in pubs and clubs putting up posters for forthcoming events on shops and street furniture without permission.
The council complained of 'almost saturation coverage, with empty shops plastered with posters and flyers.
The council has now warned pubs that enforcement officers would be out every weekend, and during the week, to issue fixed-penalty notices against offenders.
A blitz earlier this month saw enforcement staff issue a total of 20 £50 fixed-penalty notices to venues.
The council has named the worst offenders as: the Audio Club on Marine Parade (total fine of £250); the Ocean Rooms on Morley Street (£200); Event 2 on West Street (£100); and the Brighton Gloucester on Gloucester Place (£100).
Another seven fixed penalty notices were issued to other venues, and three bars have been sent warning letters.
'We are making it clear that we have had enough and are sending out a strong message that flyposting will not be tolerated, said councillor Gill Mitchell, chair of the council's environmental committee.
