The Eldridge Pope-owned Crystal Palace pub in Bath is to be renamed the Albion following a suggestion from area manager Derrick Smith. The West Brom fan said it was a "natural" move after Palace were relegated from the Premier League while his team beat the drop. The revamp includes new menu, signs and interior decoration.

Office in Chester to be Little Fifteen

Yesteryear Pub Company has unveiled a £300,000 refurbishment programme for the Office in Chester to convert it to its Little Fifteen brand. The Frodsham Street bar was acquired from the receivers for a six-figure sum. The company now has pubs, bars and bistros at 28 sites across the north-west.

Sheps helps OAPs land Chelsea gong

Kent brewer Shepherd Neame helped Chelsea pensioners to win the best show garden award at this year's Chelsea Flower Show. The 1945 garden incorporated a traditional English pub, for which the Faversham brewery supplied furniture, a special sign and bottles of Spitfire Premium Kentish Ale.

Claims culture is companies' fault'

Employment tribunal experts Croner claims that companies are fuelling a compensation culture by not contesting claims. The company said that too many employers take a knee-jerk reaction and pay out before the claim reaches court because they are afraid of the massive legal costs.

Cotleigh named top drinks producer

Cotleigh Brewery has been named Best Drinks Producer of the Year at the Royal Bath and West Show. The award was voted for by Somerset Life readers and judges then interviewed the finalists.

Venue demolition axes beer festival

This year's Caledonian Beer Festival has been axed after Scottish & Newcastle demolished the Festival Hall at the Caledonian Brewery as part of a £2m revamp. The organisers couldn't find another venue, but said the event could return next year.
