Leisure management specialist company Vimac Leisure has spent £3m to acquire Hush, described as "Middlesbrough's hottest nightspot".

The three-storey venue, which includes the Absolut Vodka Bar, opened a year ago, joins a series of successful venues owned by Vimac, including locations in Durham, Chester-le-Street, Glasgow, Hexham, Rotherham and North Yorkshire. Earlier this year, Vimac also added fish restaurant Trenchers, in Whitby, to its portfolio.

Paul Mackings, managing director of Vimac Leisure, said: "We have been working very hard to secure this deal, which adds another upmarket venue to our expanding portfolio.

"We intend to work very closely with the managers at Hush, who will remain on board following the acquisition, to carefully develop its future growth and reputation."

Hush was acquired from property developer Rashad Hameed, who bought the venue just over three years ago as a derelict building.

Founded less than three years ago, Vimac Leisure has seen its annual turnover grow from a standing start to more than £10m. Its latest venue, the new £2.2m Studio bar and nightclub in Chester-le-Street, is scheduled to open next month.

Mr Mackings added: "Our success can be attributed to us acquiring sound businesses in strong locations and using our own skills to make them even better.

"Plans for further acquisitions and additional investments are already under way in other areas and we expect to make further announcements throughout 2005.

"In the meantime, we will be working hard to continue the success of our existing portfolio."
