"We had the wedding on television in the pub, but truthfully, there was very little interest shown.
Most (customers) were waiting for the Grand National. By the time the race started we had a good crowd and it was probably the best attendance we have had for the event over the years. I cannot remember any of our regulars making any comments about the wedding, so it was a no go for us."

"People had been moaning about the Royal wedding all week so we did not even
bother to screen it. All they were interested in was when the big screen was coming down for the start of the horse racing. We had a decent crowd in for the National and ran a sweepstake but there were no big winners among our locals. Most seemed to back one of the favourites which fell half-way round."

"We were packed all afternoon but only three people out of 250 actually asked for the Royal wedding to be turned on. Each time we tried to turn it over there were complaints so we abandoned any pretence of showing it. We had a really good Saturday afternoon, the best National day for years and everyone enjoyed the sweepstake. It was definitely Royal Wedding 0, Grand National 1."

"We do not have a television in the pub so screening the wedding was never an issue. But quite frankly there did not seem to be much enthusiasm from customers. I went to watch our local rugby club in the afternoon but even then drew the short straw because it was a dreadful match even the wedding would have been more interesting!"
