Who says it's a man's world? The Rising Sun on Newport Road, Barnstaple, has a new landlady at the helm the second in a row. Janet Davies has purchased the Rising Sun from vendor Vanessa Lindsay via the Stonesmith Partnership of Exeter. "Janet is an experienced operator having run a previous licensed establishment in the town," said selling agent Sue Stone. "Since moving in, Janet has been busy developing and enlarging the trade garden and hopes by next summer to have an outside cocktail bar to serve the 40/50 covers. "Her next big project is installing a fully functioning catering kitchen this... will also make it easier for Janet to continue developing the 100-cover function facility," said Stone. The Rising Sun is an end-of-terrace two-storey property with a modern interior. The main entrance leads to a themed bar area with various seating for 36 covers and a snug bar with 12 covers. The separate sports room has a nautical theme with porthole style mirrors, darts oche and two pool tables. The function room has its own dance floor and is popular for private parties. Stone added that the first floor provided owner's accommodation that had three bedrooms, a bathroom, lounge and kitchen. The Rising Sun was sold for an undisclosed sum off an asking price of £75,000 for the leasehold.
