Hard-up students are set to save cash at Yates's outlets with the launch of a new student discount card for the high street bar chain. The managed operator is offering 25% off selected drinks and food at Yates's bars that are close to universities with its new Skint card. The card, which costs £1 and can be used at selected Yates's between Sunday and Thursday, will also allow students to queue jump on busy Friday and Saturday nights. Research carried out by Yates Group shows that, despite reports of students being cash-strapped, they have a weekly disposable income of £86.75. Group marketing directorIan Webb said: "They do have money in their pockets for things other than text books and rent, and we want them to spend some of it in our bars. "Couple that with the fact that students comprise around a third of our core 18 to 24-year-old market and we have a compelling reason for introducing the card." Skint cards last for one year and can be bought from this month. Yates managers are also being encouraged to establish links with local student unions to help attract the student market.
