An adhesive glass cover has been developed which the maker claims will cut drink spiking while boosting profits for pubs. Safesux has been designed to fit over the top of a glass, making drink spiking difficult. It has a small pierce-point where a straw can be inserted. Mark Grogan, director of Aust-ralian-based owner Safesux Drinks Protection, said: "We are not saying this is 100% protection, but it stops the easy-action and it makes consumers aware that spiking could happen." He said the company decided to launch the product in Britain rather than Australia because the issue is far more prevalent here. Drink spiking hit the headlines late last year in a series of high-profile attacks. The Roofie Foun-dation, which investigates drug rape, estimate that more than 1,000 drug-assisted sexual attacks took place last year the highest ever. The foundation has backed the Safesux device. Chief executive Graham Rhodes said: "We've tested it and it's a brilliant deterrent. It's so simple." Rhodes said he preferred Safesux to testing devices because these only show if a drink has been spiked at the moment of testing they offer no guarantee the drink will be spike-free the whole evening.
