Brains launches female ale tasting
Brains, the Cardiff based brewer, has run a female beer tasting initiative called "Sex in the City."
The tasting based around the cult American series about the lives of a group of single women saw a lawyer, a PR executive, a journalist and an art expert make their way to Terra Nova bar in Mermaid Quay, Cardiff to try out Brains' ales.
David Knowles, retail marketing manager for Brains, said: "In bars such as Terra Nova, we aim to have a variety of beers served in attracted ways, which hopefully will catch the eye of women."
Results:
- Carrie: Western Mail journalist, Joanne Atkinson, 25, sampled Reverend James.
"It was better than I thought as I'm not a beer drinker. I think using smaller, different glasses a good idea but you don't get much drink in a cocktail glass! It has made me consider drinking beer in the future."
Samantha: PR account executive, Helen Ward, 26 tasted Brains Smooth.
"I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would - it just wasn't the way I expected beer to taste. It was cooler, really refreshing and definitely lived up to its 'smooth' title. I think the idea of serving the drink in a more attractive way is great."
Miranda: solicitor, Jenny Rees, 31 tasted Brains Dark.
"It had a bit of a coffee-like taste and I don't actually drink coffee but this was really nice - it wasn't at all gassy, which I was a bit worried about and I found it very easy to drink. Brains Smooth was much creamier but, again, a very easy drink to sample." Charlotte: Nina Walters, 20, an employee at Gallery 66 in Cardiff tasted all the beers.
"It probably wasn't a drink I would have considered before and, while it still might not be my first choice, I can't say I actually disliked any of the beers we sampled. If beer was served like that all the time, I'm sure myself and a lot of my friends would drink more of it."
