Maxxium UK's The Famous Grouse has picked up three gold medals in one of the world's premiere drinks competitions, the International Spirits Challenge. Winners of the prestigious competition were announced at the London International Wine and Spirits Trade Fair, with The Famous Grouse landing a hat-trick of gold medals out of a possible 13 awarded in the Scotch whisky category.
The Famous Grouse Vintage Malt 1992 won gold in the 'distillers vatted malts' category while stable partner The Famous Grouse Gold Reserve also struck gold in 'premium Scotch blends between 12 and 20 years.'
No stranger to industry acclaim, The Macallan single highland malt also celebrated another industry plaudit, this time for its 30 year old expression in the 'distillers single malts 21 years and over.'
"Now in its sixth year, the International Spirits Challenge is judged by leading experts within the spirits industry, which makes the awards more pertinent, said Maxxium UK's Chris Anderson, senior marketing manager for The Famous Grouse. "The recognition by our peers of the quality of Maxxium UK's winning products is testament to the quality and consistency of two of Scotland's most famous whiskies," He continued.
Matthew Turner, The Macallan's global controller, concurred, adding it was an especially pleasing result because this was the 30 year old bottle's first foray in this competition. "This award builds upon the proud reputation the brand has established for its 18 and 25 year old malts, and we look forward to more successs with the 30 year old."
Results will be published in Wine and Spirit International, Drinks International and Wine Magazine and medals awarded at a dinner in London in September.
