- The Swan in Dobcross, near Saddleworth in Lancashire, which featured in the film Yanks starring Richard Gere, has been bought by Jennings Brewery. Historically the pub cellars were used for holding prisoners awaiting trial and around 140 years ago the pub kitchen was used as a surgery for the local doctor. Jennings is continuing its acquisition program across the North of England and is currently looking for suitable lessees for some of its 110 tenanted pubs.
Burtonwood has invested almost £3m in expanding its estate with the acquisition of four tenanted and two managed pubs. The four tenanted pubs include the Millers Inn in Barnsley; the Nelthorpe Arms in Brigg, Lincolnshire; the Lamb in Burton-on-Trent, Derbyshire; and the Junction in Chase Town, Staffordshire. The pubs will be rebranded as Burtonwood "Pubs of Quality". The two managed pubs - the Old Pint Pot in Salford Crescent, Manchester, and the Menai Court Hotel in Bangor, North Wales - are to be rebranded into young persons' venues. The company currently has 490 pubs, 37 of them managed.

The package which includes the Newborough Bach in Porthmadog and the Harpoon in Caernarfon, was bought for £2.2m and brings its estate to 1,122. The deal is part of the company's on-going strategy of cherry-picking suitable sites for expansion.
