Venue Review: The Cock, Sibson, Leicestershire
Time of visit1pm, Monday.
LocationOn the A444 near Nuneaton - £10 cab ride from station.
ClienteleBusinessmen and office workers dotted around.
InteriorVery traditional - exposed beams. In process of being re-painted.
MenuThe lunch time menu offered traditional pub favourites like steak & kidney pie (£6.95); lasagne & chips (£6.95) and chilli con carne & chips (£6.95). Steaks available (from £9); daily specials, like chicken chasseur or cajun tuna steak, cost under £10 and there is a Sunday lunch offering of a three-course roast for £9.95.
FoodWe ordered lasagne and chips and chilli con carne with chips. Both meals offered larger portions, definitely frozen chips plus a salad. Very predictable lunchtime pub food but nonetheless enjoyable and even better with a couple of glasses of red wine. The Cock's a la carte restaurant was closed but a return visit might improve its rating as the pub is listed in The Good Pub Guide 2001.
ServiceOrdered food at bar and it was brought to our table.
VerdictNothing out of the ordinary but didn't eat in the a la carte restaurant.
