The Three Crowns: newly refurbished
A St Austell Brewery inn has reopened after an 18-month £1.8m restoration project in Chagford, Devon.

The Three Crowns, a 13th century Grade II listed building, reopened yesterday with a re-laid thatched roof, new dining area and updated interior.

Award winning executive chef and menu development manager Peter Hingston will oversee the catering side at the Three Crowns as well as the Globe in Topsham, Exeter, which reopened last month after a similar refurbishment project. He joined St Austell earlier this year from the former Island Hotel on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly.

There are six kitchen staff, a 60-cover restaurant and 40 bar covers plus outdoor seating with projected earnings on food standing at £18,000 to £20,000 a week. Dishes include hand-dived scallops and slow cooked belly pork.

Rooms at the Three Crowns start from £79 based on two people sharing with a full English breakfast. Rooms at the Globe start from £89.

“After an extensive refurbishment programme we’re delighted to be able to re-open the Three Crowns having restored it to its former glory, albeit with a new twist and 21st century comfort!,” said estate director Adam Luck.

“Visitors can expect a very traditional inn experience, complete with a stylish, comfortable décor.”

The investment in the two pubs is part of the brewery’s multi-million pound investment of its portfolio.
