Pubs across the country are being urged to do their bit to help serviceman suffering from military trauma.

The charity PTSD (which stands for post traumatic stress disorder) Resolution Network has recently launched Resolution Pub Hub. The new initiative aims to involve pubs in providing support to members of the armed forces in their communities.

Pubs are encouraged to fundraise for the charity and point servicemen who might need help towards Resolution's nationwide network of 250 therapists.

Where Help for Heroes has had huge success in raising funds and awareness for members of the forces with physical injuries Resolution aims to do a similar job for those suffering mentally.

Jim Woolley, licensee of the Hare in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was the first licensee to register for the scheme.

He said: "This is not about turning pubs into therapy centres for servicemen but about pubs being at the heart of communities.

"We want pubs in every town to get involved, it could just be fundraising or putting up posters about the service."

And he added that he had already seen customers benefit from using the service.

"Alcohol is a big problem for ex-servicemen but they often come to the pub for social interaction. I have seen people use the service and it helps them cope with their experiences and deal with their drinking."

He added that fundraising events for the charity - including a sponsored firewalk - have also helped drive footfall to the pub.

A spokesman for PTSD added: "Pubs offer veterans social contact in a sympathetic setting, and provide information on local services by Resolution Networks' trained therapists, as well as employers, housing and services' charities."

The charity has also teamed up with Tring Brewery in Hertfordshire to produce a beer that will raise funds for PDST from every pint sold.
