A Manchester bar is offering customers the chance to serve themselves beer at their tables.

Taps, owned by bar and restaurant proprietors Nick and Geoff Thornton under the Thornton Inns banner, has installed self service draught beer systems at tables. It is the second Taps venue — the first was opened in Leicester.

Customers will be able to pour themselves pints of Amstel and another high quality Belgium beer —  Duvel Green, Leifermans Summer Fruits or Vedett White.

It claims to be the first self-service bar in the North West. Customers can see their bill totting up in front of them before they settle the account at the end of their stay.

"Manchester's restaurant and bar scene is a diverse mix but we feel that there is space for something new that offers customers a unique experience that they will not find anywhere else," said Nick Thornton.

"You don't have to queue at the bar or buy in set measures, at Taps you pay for what you pour and nothing more.

"Of the course, the beer consumption will be constantly monitored by our trained wait-staff and every beer tap has a cut-off point and these taps can be turned off at any time, at the wait-staff and managers discretion."

Head chef Liam Holuj who was previously at the City Inn and The Northern Quarter Restaurant, has developed a high quality menu with a Belgian bias to compliment the drinks offer.
