An innovative licensee is giving his customers "something extra" by transforming his pub into an art gallery.

Shaun Fathers of the the Dogwood, in Kidlington, Oxfordshire is exhibiting the work of two local artists over the festive period and will hold a live music event on Saturday to launch the "gallery opening".

The pub has held free art shows in the past, but this will be the first show since Shaun took over in August.

"Not everyone wants to pay money to go to art galleries, especially at moment when times are tough," said Shaun.

"Now our customers have the chance to get some culture while they drink their beer. We're giving them something extra."

He added: "Art shows at the Dogwood have been successful in the past. We've had good comments from customers and it seems to increase business when we've got art up."

Gary Bosher, one of the artists whose work will again be on display, said: "The event works well for both of us. Last year on the launch day the Dogwood was packed out and I had loads of enquiries about my art the following week."

All paintings in the pub are up for sale. Prices range from £45 to £180.
