Managed operator Barracuda Group has increased the number of its pubs offering cask ale from 125 to 170.

The operator has also introduced a new cocktail and long drinks menu to 200 of its pubs.

Barracuda teamed up with Wells & Young's to offer cask ale training to all sites offering real ales while Scottish & Newcastle UK (S&NUK) has assisted in cellar audits at venues.

"The offering of cask ale will open up a new audience, particularly with students in our Varsity's and the corporate worker at lunch time who enjoys a great pint with his sandwich," said head of marketing Myles Doran.

"With the assistance of S&NUK, we'll be undertaking audits of the cellars to make sure that pubs have the right equipment to serve the beer at its optimum.

"We'll also be training our staff on how to look after, handle and serve cask ale which will be held at Charles Wells in Bedford.

"It will be great for the teams to see where the beer is brewed, so that they see the passion that goes towards making a great beer like Bombardier. Our long term aim is to get all of our cask ale stockists accredited by Cask Marque."

Staff have also been trained in making the new range of cocktail so that they can be served quickly and efficiently.

"With a great selection of long drinks, shots and mocktails, we believe that the cocktail menu will bridge the gap for those who want something a little different from wine or RTDs," added Doran.
