An important training course will be more widely available to newcomers to the trade after two leading licensed trade trainers joined forces.

Arrochar Associates and abv Training will provide the BIIAB Level 2 Introduction to Licensed Retail Operations (ILRO) as an open course at venues across the country.

Under the new format, the course, called Introduction to Profitable Retailing Excellence, will be more accessible for retailers.

Previously prospective attendees had to wait until there were sufficient numbers for a course to be arranged.

The three day course is designed to help new tenants and managers get to grips with their businesses.

Simon Eyles, commercial manager of Admiral Taverns which is making use of the new open format, said: "We are delighted to see these training centres join forces to offer the ILRO as an open course, as date and venue flexibility is key to us.

"We will be supporting these introductory courses with attendees at each venue as we believe they meet our strategy for raising standards across the industry and aiding long and successful careers for our tenants and lessees."

Steve Dennis, head of business development for BIIAB, said: "BIIAB is delighted that, together, two of our centres have been able to fill this gap in the market and we will support them as much as we can."

The first courses have been arranged for July 22-24 at Tackley, Oxfordshire and on July 29-31 at Leeds.
