Interactive pub quiz Cash Inn will not be making a return after accountants admitted defeat in their bid to restructure the company.

Hosted by TV star Jasper Carrott via a dedicated TV channel, the quiz saw pubs pitting their wits against each other using specialist keypads for a weekly prize of up to £25,000.

But it required a big outlay from licensees, and was beset by technical problems.

And one of the few arrangements it tied up with pub companies was with Yates's, owned by Laurel - which itself went into administration in March.

Accountancy firm BDO Stoy Hayward was asked to find increased funding for parent company Answerback TV, which operated the company through Innterplay, in February.

A spokesman for the firm said: "We went in in February to find out if we could find someone to take over the company - unfortunately we weren't able to find anyone to buy into the company, and there were no firm offers.

"As a result the company has recently been split up with the assets sold off. The majority of the assets have now been sold off, with loose ends now being tied up."

Louise Gregory, supervisor at the Yates's bar in Camberley, Surrey said the quiz had been proving quite popular with customers before technical problems initially forced it off air last December.

Answerback TV has now been dissolved, although the Answerback Interactive name has been acquired by a new company.

Jasper Carrott was unavailable for comment.
