Beatles album-cover artist Sir Peter Blake has designed a new label for Cains Finest Lager.

Blake, dubbed the "godfather of pop art", designed the new label to kick-off Cains support of Liverpool's Capital of Culture celebrations.

Blake rose to fame in the 1960s and his work included the cover art for the Beatles Sgt Pepper album and the Live Aid logo.

"Cains Brewery and its beers are woven into the history and culture of Liverpool," said Blake.

"Many of the city's heritage pubs were built by Cains and form part of the company's enduring legacy."

Cains chief executive Sudarghara Dusanj added: "Sir Peter Blake is one of country's best loved artists and, through his work with the Beatles, has built a strong affiliation with Liverpool so we couldn't think of anyone better to create our limited edition 'Best of British' bottle.

"The final design is truly striking and is the perfect complement to our 'Best of British' activity."

The limited edition bottle will be available until December 2008.
