Dark Smooth aims for sweet spot

Cheshire-based brewer Robinsons is currently trialling a new 3.7% abv stout.

Dark Smooth is currently available in 30 Robinsons pubs as well as 12 freehouses. The beer will be launched officially at the beginning of September and will replace Three Shires Mild. The new brew is described as having a "creamy, coffee-like appearance on dispense"

and a "clean, sweet palate complemented by a smoky caramel richness."

Oliver Robinson, Robinsons commercial director, said: "The new beer will appeal to people with a sweeter palate - both men and women. Point of sale material such as tent cards and beer mats will be available from September to support

the launch."

HPA debuts as summer guest ale

Manchester-based Hydes is adding its Highly Prestigious Ale to its summer portfolio of guest ales. The 4.5% abv copper-coloured ale, which is available now, was first launched in 2004 and is described as having "a subtle taste of lingering fruit". David Safiruddin, Hydes' marketing director, said: "HPA sits alongside our increasingly popular Jekyll's Gold and

complements our summer craft beer."

Combined Harvest - bottled

Independent family brewer Batemans is putting its Combined Harvest ale into bottles. The new format will be available from September, with a slightly higher strength, at 4.7% abv,

compared to the draught version's 4.4% abv. Combined Harvest is brewed from a blend of malted oats, rye, wheat and barley. It joins Batemans' seasonal bottled beer range, which also includes Spring Breeze, Summer Swallow, and the soon-to-be-released Autumn Fall.
