Beer Lao launches in UK
Beer Lao, a new import from the south east Asian country of Laos, has been launched exclusively into the UK on-trade.
The beer is being imported by two friends, Alex Mervart and James Morgan, who discovered the beer while travelling in Laos. "We did some research while we were in the country and everyone said it was the best beer around," said Mr Mervart.
They decided to quit their corporate jobs in the UK and set up their own distribution company, Milestonepoint. The pair have got an exclusivity deal with the Lao brewery and are going direct to UK customers themselves.
"We were very clear we wanted to control the supply chain," said Mr Mervart. "We are targeting top end bars and south east Asian restaurants at first but we will soon be looking to get it into pubs."
Mr Mervart also admitted he and Mr Morgan were looking to extend Milestonepoint's portfolio and had already spoken to some smaller brewers in Europe about importing their brands. Beer Lao is available exclusively to the on-trade nationwide through Milestonepoint and for private orders from www.beerlao.co.uk.
